“Liberti” is the Latin word for “freed people.” In using the word “Liberti” we identify not only with the rich history of the city of Philadelphia, but it also connects us as a people who are experiencing the liberation from sin and death which Jesus Christ provides. In the gospel of John, Jesus says, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” Jesus is the only one who can free us from our sins, liberating us to love God in worship, love each other in community, and love our neighbor in mercy. The lifestyle of worship, community and mercy that is the result of the freedom and call of Jesus is a foundational Gospel calling for all the Liberti Churches.
Our mission is rooted in our commitment to Christ’s great commission found at the end of Matthew’s gospel, where he said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
